About ACORN

Acorn Montessori School was set up within the grounds of Cliffoney National School in November 2012. We offer a Morning supervision service, a Sessional Montessori Pre-school and an after-school homework club and supervision facility. We are open 38 weeks of the year and follow the National School Calendar. Our school provides high quality, universal, inclusive learning for all children; our policies and procedures help maintain a supportive learning community.

We are committed to excellence in Montessori education. Our school provides high quality, universal, inclusive early learning for young children. Mission Statement

Acorn Montessori School follows the educational method developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. The Montessori philosophy seeks as its goal an independent, self-directed child. Our program fosters the development of responsibility, collaboration, co-operation and an enjoyment of learning. Specially designed Montessori materials are integrated with other developmentally appropriate activities to provide the child with progressive learning in the areas of Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language Development and Cultural Activities. The Montessori philosophy recognizes that children have a natural desire that inspires them to reach their potential.

Quotes by Maria Montessori

'The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist’

'To stimulate life, leaving it free, however, to unfold itself – that is the first duty of the educator. '

'Respect all forms of activity in which the child engages and try to understand them'
